Remind people of TRS’ welfare schemes: KCR

TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday asked party candidates to remind people about the benefits they got from the welfare schemes introduced during the four-andhalf-year TRS rule.

At a meeting at Telangana Bhavan, KCR gave details of all the beneficiaries of various schemes constituency-wise to all candidates. There are approximately 60,000 beneficiaries in each constituency and the TRS is considering them as a strong vote bank.

KCR asked candidates to visit every home during their campaigning to not only remind beneficiaries about what they got but also explain to the electorate about the partial manifesto that he had already declared.

Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari who briefed the media after the three-hour meeting said that by the end of the month, KCR would address two public meetings. . While KCR will try to cover all assembly constituencies after that until the campaigning time ends, he will focus mainly on constituencies where the Mahakutami thinks it has a strong presence. The CM’s schedule of public meetings will be announced on Monday, Srihari said.

Vote for TRS to enable development, Kadiam tells voters

The Minister asked the people to exercise caution in choosing candidates, adding that the TRS is for development while the Congress is known for settlements, land grabbing and criminal activities.

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari on Wednesday urged the voters of Parkal Assembly constituency to vote for TRS candidate Challa Dharma Reddy if they want peace and development.

Stating that vote for the Congress candidate (Prajakutami) is nothing but vote for ‘gunda raj’, he asked the people to exercise caution in choosing candidates, adding that the TRS is for development and the Congress is known for settlements, land grabbing and other criminal activities.

Addressing a massive bike rally organised by TRS activists to garner votes for Challa Dharma Reddy here on Wednesday, Srihari termed ‘Prajakutami’ as ‘Daghakutami’ and urged the people to support the TRS candidate. “Dharma Reddy is capable of crushing the ‘konda’. He strived a lot for the development of the constituency as MLA. He was instrumental in setting up the Kakatiya mega textile park in the constituency by acquiring 1,200 acres of land without any hurdle,” he said, adding that Dharma Reddy had even sanctioned Rs 50 crore for laying of CC roads.

Observing that the rally attracted a large number of people, he said that winning the seat is a mere formality for Dharma Reddy.

Ridiculing the parties forming the Prajakutami for their failure in arriving at a decision on seat sharing, he said that TRS candidates have already completed their second phase of campaigning.

Meanwhile, Dharma Reddy urged voters not to believe rumours of him suffering from a serious illness, and urged them to vote him to victory once again. The bike rally, which saw participation of nearly 4,000 people, was organised from Athmakur to Gudeppadu.

MP Banda Prakash also spoke at the rally.

TRS realised ideals of Kumram Bheem: Jogu Ramanna

Forest and Environment Minister Jogu Ramanna says Adivasis have started reaping benefits of various schemes aimed at empowering them

Forest and Environment Minister, Jogu Ramanna, on Wednesday said that the TRS government realised the ideals of tribal legend Kumram Bheem, by introducing welfare schemes for the welfare of tribal people and added that the tribals have started reaping the benefits of such schemes.

Speaking on the occasion of the 78th martyrdom anniversary of Kumram Bheem, Ramanna said that the deaths of Adivasis has come down after the TRS assumed power in the State and added that Rs 25 crore was granted for constructing a Kumram Bheem memorial and museum at Jodeghat village in Kerameri mandal, where the legend attained martyrdom.

The Minister further stated that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was the first person in office to attend the anniversary of the tribal legend in 2014 and added that the State has been organising Kumram Bheem’s anniversary officially, unlike the previous governments. The TRS government had issued RoFR pattadar passbooks to 17,000 adivasis dwelling in Agency areas, he informed.

Ramanna recalled that a double road was laid between Hatti and Jodeghat at a cost of Rs 17 crore, recently and added that the TRS government was committed for the welfare and growth of tribals. He alleged the Congress party of trying to create differences between Advasis and Lambadas by backing one of the sections and urged all the people to be cautious of the lies being spread by the opposition party leaders.

Adilabad MP G Nagesh, Adilabad Municipal Chairperson R Maneesha, and TRS mandal president Laxmi also paid tributes to Kumram Bheem. They hailed Bheem for sacrificing his life for the rights of the aboriginal tribals over water, forest and land in 1940. They added that struggles of the legend had transformed the lives of Adivasis.

Elect TRS for double bonanza: Durgam Chinnaiah

TRS candidate from Bellampalli Assembly constituency Durgam Chinnaiah urged voters to elect the TRS if they wanted to have double benefits of welfare schemes and fruits of development. He was accorded a grand welcome by locals while electioneering in different localities of the coal belt town on Wednesday.

Chinnaiah said that the amount of social security pensions was enhanced from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,016 per month and that the jobless would be offered unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000 every month. “If you want to get double benefits of welfare schemes, the TRS must come to power. Similarly, the State will undergo remarkable development if the party is elected again,” he said.

Later, the former legislator invited 50 youngsters and ex-BJP mandal president Chandragiri Srinivas into the TRS fold at a programme held in the town. He said that many were joining the pink party after being impressed by its governance in the past four years and its innovative schemes. He hoped that the party would be able to secure power for the second time with the help of the schemes and development works.

The nominee lambasted the Congress for uniting with the TDP and for stalling development works by approaching courts. He said that the people would teach a lesson to the Prajakutami and give mandate to the TRS in the coming elections. He added that only TRS was committed to the growth of the newly-created Telangana State as it had achieved a separate State after struggling for 14 years.

Bellampalli Agriculture Market Committee Chairman Narasingam, Municipality vice-chairman Satyanarayana, TRS town president Narayana, counselors Laxmi, Sudarshan, TRSV district president Shravan, local leaders of the party Gelli Rajalingu, Mahesh, Shankar, Rajeshwar, Yousuf, Vasu, Ramulu and Srinivas were among the many who attended the event.

TRS will retain power: KTR

He pointed out that whether it was the GHMC, Warangal by-election or other polls, people of the State had been extending support to TRS since 2014.

Industries and IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday said Telangana State would witness a ‘noisy revolution’ on December 11, the day of counting after polling to 119 Assembly seats on December 7 that will see the TRS retaining power in the State with a thumping majority.

The Minister was reacting to TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy’s comment claiming that the State was witnessing a ‘silent revolution.’ “There is no such silent revolution in the State, and the only revolution that the State will see will be the people’s celebrations on December 11, when all the Congress leaders will be proved wrong,” Rama Rao said, participating in Praja Aashirvada Sabha held in Medipalli of Jagtial district.

He pointed out that whether it was the GHMC, Warangal by-election or other polls, people of the State had been extending support to TRS since 2014.

“TRS will capture power in the State again by winning 100 Assembly seats and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will continue as Chief Minister even after December 11. There is no doubt about this,” he said.

Stating that he could proudly declare that KCR will be the Chief Minister again in the next term, Rama Rao challenged the Congress leaders to announce its Chief Ministerial candidate. “Ten leaders will take turns as Chief Minister for the next five years if the Congress is voted to power,” he said, adding that KCR will be Chief Minister till the agriculture sector becomes a festive activity and the objective of Golden Telangana is achieved.

Terming the Congress-TDP alliance as unethical, the Minister said it was a great insult to the late Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, who founded the TDP to primarily oppose the Congress. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had shown his true colours by writing 30 letters to the Central government to stall construction of Kaleshwaram, Sita Rama and Palamuru lift irrigation projects, he said, while Congress filed a number of cases in the court against the construction of irrigation projects after taking fingerprints of dead persons.

Supply of 24 hours power supply to agriculture sector and construction of irrigation projects would be stalled if the Prajakutami was voted to power in the State, he warned, and said it was up to the people to decide whether to elect KCR, who has been striving hard for the uplift of all sections of society, or the Congress-TDP alliance which had made the people suffer for 67 years.

With a view to improve the lives of the poor, the TRS government focused more on vital issues like irrigation projects, 24 hours power supply to the agriculture sector, drinking water, pensions to different sections of people, among other initiatives. KCR has also decided to waive power bills of SC and ST communities up to 100 units, he said.

Stating that Medipalli area had been neglected in the last 67 years, Rama Rao said that Medigadda and Kathalapur areas would turn into another Konaseema once the Kaleshwaram project is completed. It would be completed in the coming six months, he said, adding that water under Mission Bhagiratha will reach every household by December 7.

MP Polls : BJP launches ‘Samriddh Madhya Pradesh’ campaign

In a bid to reach out to masses in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, the BJP on Sunday launched ‘Samriddh (Prosperous) Madhya Pradesh’ campaign from here by flagging off 50 hi-tech vehicles designed as chariots.

The mass outreach programme is aimed at preparing ‘Drishti Patra’ or a vision document for the next month’s polls on the basis of suggestions received from the common people, a party leader said.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar flagged off the chariots, fitted with LED screens, sound systems and other equipment, from the state BJP headquarters in the state capital.

The chariots will comb all the 230 assembly constituencies in the next 15 days during which they would travel to at least 20 places in every segment.

The BJP has also released a phone number on which the suggestions can be forwarded either through WhatsApp, SMSes or by making a phone call.

Speaking at the launch function, Chouhan said his government had modelled various welfare schemes on the basis of feedback received from the common people.

“Because of this, we have decided to prepare a roadmap of a prosperous Madhya Pradesh on the basis of suggestions of the 7.5-crore people of the state,” he said.

The chief minister attacked the Congress for its “misrule” of the past.

“During the rule of the Congress (before 2013), people were forced to take temporary roads in their farmland for travelling instead of the main roads which were almost non-existent then. People had to spend nights on roads during summer season due to power cuts,” he said.

The CM also accused the Congress of pushing Madhya Pradesh into poverty through its policies.

“Every sector, including the education and irrigation, was in a bad shape at that time because of the Congress which had pushed this state into BIMARU category.

“We (the BJP government) lifted Madhya Pradesh from that category and turned it into a ‘Sucharu’ (smoothly run) and viksit (developed) state,” he said.

(BIMARU is an acronym for states of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh grouped into the category in the past for their poor economic condition.)

Mr. Chouhan said Madhya Pradesh will become a prosperous state in the next five years, if the BJP gets the popular mandate for another term.

Madhya Pradesh will go to polls on November 28. Counting of votes will take place on December 11.

Arvind Kejriwal’s Jaipur rally to kickstart AAP campaign in Rajasthan

  • Arvind Kejriwal will hold an election rally in Jaipur on October 28
  • AAP has already announced that it will contest on all 200 assembly seats
  • Jaipur rally will kickstart AAP’s Rajasthan campaign

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor and Delhi Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will be holding his first election rally in Rajasthan on October 28. The AAP has already announced that it will contest on all 200 assembly seats during the upcoming polls in Rajasthan.

As per Gopal Sharma, Media In-charge for AAP, “Arvind Kejriwal will hold his election rally at the Ramleela Maidan in Jaipur on October 28. He will hold 7 – 8 rallies in Rajasthan in the run-up to the polls.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, apart from other known faces of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), will be campaigning for the party for the upcoming Assembly elections in Rajasthan.

“They are going to campaign very intensively in Rajasthan.”, Deepak Vajpai, AAP in-charge for Rajasthan.

So far, the AAP has released six lists. Names of candidates for 62 seats have already been announced.

Rajasthan polls: Manvendra Singh’s entry gives Congress the edge over BJP among Rajputs

The MLA has considerable influence in Marwar, which sends 30 legislators to the Assembly.

Banking on anti-incumbency sentiment against the Vasundhara Raje-led Bharatiya Janata Party government in Rajasthan to help it put up a winning performance in the December 7 state election, the Congress received a shot in the arm with former BJP leader Manvendra Singhjoining its ranks on October 17. Congress leaders and political pundits say the Rajput leader’s entry gives the Congress a clear edge over the BJP in the Marwar region, which sends 30 legislators to the state’s 200-strong Assembly.

Manvendra Singh, the MLA from Sheo, is the son of former Union minister and senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh. He quit the BJP in September, saying that his decision to join the party had been a mistake. With his departure, the BJP no longer has a Rajput leader with a high evel of popularity in the state. Rajputs account for around 7% of the state’s population.

In previous elections, influential Rajput leaders such as Jaswant Singh and the late Bhairon Singh Shekhawat had boosted the BJP’s electoral prospects in Marwar, which comprises the districts of Jodhpur, Barmer, Nagaur, Sirohi, Pali, and Jalore. On average, 15 to 17 Rajput legislators have been voted in to the 200-member state assembly during each election, most of them coming from the BJP. Of the 27 Rajputs elected to the House in 2013, for instance, 24 were from the BJP.

However, that support began to crumble after the BJP denied Jaswant Singh a Lok Sabha ticket in the 2014 general elections and decided instead to field Colonel Sonaram Choudhary, a former Congress leader and a Jat. Jaswant Singh chose to contest as an independent candidate. He lost the election by a margin of 80,000 votes. The Rajputs were miffed with the BJP’s treatment of Jaswant Singh. After Jaswant Singh slipped into a coma in August 2014, Manvendra Singh started mobilising votersagainst the BJP.

Why Rajputs are angry with Raje, BJP

Evidence of Manvendra Singh’s popularity was apparent on September 22, when his Swabhiman Rally in Barmer drew lakhs of supporters. In fact, resentment among Rajputs with the ruling BJP is so intense that members of the community threw stones at Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje’s bus during her Gaurav Yatra in August, forcing her to complete the Marwar leg of her campaign tour in a helicopter.

Other factors have also contributed to Rajput anger against Raje and the BJP. In July 2017, they violently protested against the killing of Rajput gangster Anandpal Singh by the state police. Singh was facing murder charges. His family claimed he had wanted to surrender and that the encounter was fake. Eventually, the Central government gave in to the community’s demand and ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry. The fact that no Rajput BJP legislator came out in support of Anandpal Singh’s family angered the community.

Rajasthan polls 2018: Some interesting facts from history

Two hundred Assembly seats in Rajasthan will go to elections on December 7 and the results will be declared on December 11, along with those in the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Telangana. Rajasthan is one of those few states in the country that still sees a stable two-party competition and the power changing hands every five years. Though the state had once been a bastion of the Congress, the BJP tasted success in this state for the first time in 1990 and he two parties have been in and out of power over the last 28 years, especially since the 1993 election.

In the 2013 Assembly election, the BJP had a sweeping victory by winning 163 out of 200 seats, while the Congress won just 21. The National People’s Party won four seats while the BSP won three seats. Here are some interesting facts about Assembly elections in Rajasthan:

–Rajasthan has gone to polls 14 times since 1952 when the first election was held and of these, the Congress has won nine times and the BJP four. The Janata Party formed government once (1977).

–The Congress had one-sided dominance in the state’s politics till 1977 when it lost power for the first time and the Janata Party came to power, just as it had at the Centre. Bhairon Singh Sekhawat became Rajasthan’s first non-Congress chief minister. He was also the state’s first BJP chief minister who took office in 1990.

–The Congress returned to power in 1980 and continued till 1990 when the BJP came to power for the first time. However, President’s Rule was imposed in the state in the wake of the Babri demolition in December 1992 and it continued for a year when Sekhawat returned to power. It is so far the only time that the BJP came to power in Rajasthan by winning two consecutive elections (1990 and 1993).

–In 1990, the BJP won 85 out of 200 seats while in 1993, its tally went up to 95.

–The two parties have come to power every five years since then. While Sekhawat served between 1993 and 1998, Ashok Gehlot was the chief minister between 1998 and 2003 and 2008 and 2013. Current Chief Miniser Vasundhara Raje served between 2003 and 2008 and then between 2013 and 2018. Can she match Sekhawat’s feat of becoming chief minister for consecutive terms?

–The Congress succeeded to win 150-plus seats in the Assembly election for the first time in 1998 when Gehlot became the CM.

–The BJP’s show of winning 163 seats in the 2013 edition has been the most emphatic in the state’s history. In 2003, it came to power by winning 120 seats.
