Telangana Elections: Vote for irrigation water, don’t accept liquor, says TRS

Telangana will head for polls on December 7. Counting of votes will happen on December 11.

In a scathing attack, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has accused the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party (TDP) for pumping in huge amounts of money into the Telangana Assembly election campaign in a bid to woo voters.

According to a report by The Times of India, TRS leader and state irrigation minister T Harish Rao urged voters not to get lured by money spent on them.

“Do you want that liquor or sufficient water for irrigation for the constituency?” Rao asked during a road show in Nagarkurnool Assembly constituency on October 24.

With nearly one month left for the elections, campaign has gained momentum in the state. While TRS is looking to retain power, opposition parties are leaving no stone unturned to wrest India’s youngest state from K Chandrashekar Rao-led party.

The TRS leader further sent out a message to voters, to expect any expenses on their fuel and food by TRS candidates to get their votes.

He appealed to the residents of Nagarkurnool to vote for sitting MLA Marri Janardhan Reddy. In his tenure, Reddy has proved his worth and therefore the people should work for his victory, said Rao.

Rao blamed TDP for working against the interests of Telangana. N Chandrababu Naidu had objected to Palamuru Ethipothala project on the grounds that Telangana would draw the required water from Srisailam, Rao claimed.

Telangana will head for polls on December 7. Counting of votes will happen on December 11.

TRS will retain power: KTR

He pointed out that whether it was the GHMC, Warangal by-election or other polls, people of the State had been extending support to TRS since 2014.

Industries and IT Minister KT Rama Rao on Wednesday said Telangana State would witness a ‘noisy revolution’ on December 11, the day of counting after polling to 119 Assembly seats on December 7 that will see the TRS retaining power in the State with a thumping majority.

The Minister was reacting to TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy’s comment claiming that the State was witnessing a ‘silent revolution.’ “There is no such silent revolution in the State, and the only revolution that the State will see will be the people’s celebrations on December 11, when all the Congress leaders will be proved wrong,” Rama Rao said, participating in Praja Aashirvada Sabha held in Medipalli of Jagtial district.

He pointed out that whether it was the GHMC, Warangal by-election or other polls, people of the State had been extending support to TRS since 2014.

“TRS will capture power in the State again by winning 100 Assembly seats and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will continue as Chief Minister even after December 11. There is no doubt about this,” he said.

Stating that he could proudly declare that KCR will be the Chief Minister again in the next term, Rama Rao challenged the Congress leaders to announce its Chief Ministerial candidate. “Ten leaders will take turns as Chief Minister for the next five years if the Congress is voted to power,” he said, adding that KCR will be Chief Minister till the agriculture sector becomes a festive activity and the objective of Golden Telangana is achieved.

Terming the Congress-TDP alliance as unethical, the Minister said it was a great insult to the late Chief Minister NT Rama Rao, who founded the TDP to primarily oppose the Congress. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had shown his true colours by writing 30 letters to the Central government to stall construction of Kaleshwaram, Sita Rama and Palamuru lift irrigation projects, he said, while Congress filed a number of cases in the court against the construction of irrigation projects after taking fingerprints of dead persons.

Supply of 24 hours power supply to agriculture sector and construction of irrigation projects would be stalled if the Prajakutami was voted to power in the State, he warned, and said it was up to the people to decide whether to elect KCR, who has been striving hard for the uplift of all sections of society, or the Congress-TDP alliance which had made the people suffer for 67 years.

With a view to improve the lives of the poor, the TRS government focused more on vital issues like irrigation projects, 24 hours power supply to the agriculture sector, drinking water, pensions to different sections of people, among other initiatives. KCR has also decided to waive power bills of SC and ST communities up to 100 units, he said.

Stating that Medipalli area had been neglected in the last 67 years, Rama Rao said that Medigadda and Kathalapur areas would turn into another Konaseema once the Kaleshwaram project is completed. It would be completed in the coming six months, he said, adding that water under Mission Bhagiratha will reach every household by December 7.

Telangana Elections: TRS announces candidates for Malakpet and Zaheerabad

With this, the TRS has announced 107 candidates for the 119-member Assembly. The remaining 12 candidates are also expected to be named soon.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Sunday announced the names of two more party candidates for the Malakpet and Zaheerabad Assembly constituencies for the upcoming state elections.

The decision was taken by senior TRS leaders after a meeting of all candidates with caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday. While Chava Satish Kumar has been picked for Malakpet, K Manik Rao will contest from Zaheerabad on the TRS flag.

With this, the TRS has announced 107 candidates for the 119-member Assembly. The remaining 12 candidates are also expected to be named soon.

On September 6, KCR and his cabinet passed a resolution to dissolve the Assembly which came into effect after Governor ESL Narasimhan approved it. On the same day, almost all sitting legislators of the TRS were given a ticket to contest the polls yet again.

Only two MLAs were not given a ticket again — the Chennur seat in Mancherial district and Andole in Sangareddy district. “In five places, some discussion is still needed, so the candidates have not been announced yet. This includes Medchal, Malkajgiri, Choppadandi, Vikarabad and Warangal East,” KCR had said.

KCR himself has decided to recontest from his present seat at Gajwel, while his son and IT Minister KT Rama Rao will contest again from Sircilla constituency. Irrigation Minister Harish Rao retained his nomination for the seat from Siddipet.

While the TRS won 63 seats out of the total 119 in the legislative assembly during the 2014 elections, it presently has close to 90 MLAs in its party following a series of defections. In what could be seen as a gamble, many defectors have managed to retain their ticket and will contest the same seats, this time under the TRS banner.

Meanwhile, a team from the Central Election Commission is all set to visit Telangana on Monday and review poll preparedness of the state for the elections to be held on December 7.

Telangana people won’t vote for Congress’: KTR hits back at Rahul Gandhi

IT minister KT Rama Rao slammed Rahul Gandhi for criticising the TRS party at Bhainsa and Kamareddy public meetings on Saturday and asked the AICC chief to read up on the history before addressing a public meeting.

Terming Rahul’s words as lies at a press meet in Telangana Bhavan, Rao refuted the allegations of removing Dr BR Ambedkar for Pranahita-Chevella project in the pretext of redesigning it. He also said that the project is being constructed aiming to provide water to erstwhile Adilabad district and the TRS government has not increased its cost to Rs 1 lakh.

KTR also said that the ruling party has not shown any favouritism to any party like Congress party, which targetted Muslim community for their votes. Recalling the attacks on Sikhs in 1984, KTR lambasted Rahul saying that he does not have any right to speak about minorities.

TRS questions Congress volte-face

The TRS struck at the very foundation of the Congress-led ‘Mahakutami’ on Monday, questioning the premise on which the ‘unholy’ alliance was formed.

In a series of tweets, IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao asserted that the TRS entered into an alliance with the Congress and Telugu Desam Party in 2004 and 2009, respectively, only after the two parties agreed in writing to the main demand of statehood for Telangana.

“What’s the basis for the hypocritical alliance of TDP & INC now in Telangana? Other than sheer opportunism & power mongering,” Rama Rao tweeted, ridiculing the coming together of Congress, TDP, CPI and the TJS under the Mahakutami umbrella.

The Minister also recalled Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu’s 2014 tweet where he said: “Our aim is to make nation free of corrupt Congress. Will do whatever is best to ensure it.”

“Famous last words. Another pearl of wisdom from CBN Garu,” the Minister wrote on his Twitter handle. The Minister went on to slam the alliance, stating: “If Scamgress leaders Rahul & Sonia didn’t do squat for Telangana development till 2014, what changed since then? So the “Italian Mafia Raj” (as described below) has new friends now. Guess who it is? Now you know why I call it #MahaGhatiyaBandhan.”

Earlier in the day, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao also sought to deflate the perceived hype over Mahakutami with a missive loaded with a dozen questions.

Harish’s posers

In a four-page open letter to TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, Harish Rao, coming down heavily on the ‘unholy’ alliance, asked the latter to clarify whether the Congress-TDP-CPI-TJS alliance was conditional. “Did the TDP president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu give an assurance that he would give up his anti-Telangana stand and has he agreed to withdraw cases/objections raised against irrigation projects taken up by the Telangana government, before you agreed to enter into an alliance with him,” the Minister asked.

The Minister, who released the letter to the media at a press conference here, said the people of Telangana were upset with the alliance as they fear Naidu will continue with his arm-twisting tactics to influence decisions of the Telangana government in favour of Andhra Pradesh, especially with regard to river water sharing. He raised pending issues between the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments pertaining to irrigation projects, returning seven mandals in erstwhile Khammam district to Telangana, and division of the High Court and other assets. On all these issues, Naidu has been adamant and was not extending any cooperation to get them resolved, he said, wondering what then was the objective behind the alliance.
Charge against Cong

“Congress leaders have compromised the future of the State to fulfil their political ambitions by entering into an alliance with Naidu. The TDP president vehemently opposed statehood for Telangana and continues to hinder development in Telangana State by raising objections and filing cases against our irrigation projects and other programmes,” the Minister said.

Harish Rao accused Naidu of acting against the interests of Telangana and doubted if the latter would change his stand, considering his political interests in Andhra Pradesh. He pointed out that due to similar political interests of Andhra leaders, people of Telangana suffered in undivided Andhra Pradesh for six decades, prompting the TRS to fight for separate Telangana State. “As a responsible political party, Congress should clarify on these issues and convince Naidu to address these issues under their Common Minimum Programme before fighting the elections,” he demanded.

Advice to Kodandaram

Harish Rao stated that Naidu was allying with the Telangana Congress and other parties to influence the Telangana administration in favour of Andhra Pradesh. He advised Telangana Jana Samithi president M Kodandaram not to ally with TDP and put the fate of four crore people in Telangana State in the hands of Naidu.

Government Chief Whip in Council Paturi Sudhakar Reddy, Whip Bodakunti Venkateshwarlu and former MLAs Madan Reddy and Chinta Prabhakar were present.

Making the announcement during an interaction on Twitter, Rao, son of caretaker chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, also answered questions related to infrastructure, industries development.

Our manifesto will come out later this month. Our manifesto will be a combination of all the welfare activities which were promoted in the past, he said.

TRS will play decisive role after LS elections in 2019

TRS leader and minister in Telangana’s caretaker government K T Rama Rao Friday expressed confidence that the party would play a decisive role at the Centre after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections to work for the state’s interests.

It would be a coalition era after the next parliamentary elections, he said, addressing a gathering of TRS workers here.

“I am fully confident that in this coalition era, TRS will definitely be in a decisive role in Delhi and get what is due for Telangana, not by begging the Centre, but by dictating.

Our leader KCR has the intelligence and strategy to do it,” Rama Rao, son of TRS president and Caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, said.

Claiming that the popularity of BJP and also Congress is on the decline,he exuded confidence that the Telangana people would overwhelmingly vote for TRS in the Lok Sabha polls.

“I am confident that our Telangana people will give a judgement with awareness to give 16 parliament seats to TRS. Because the Modi graph is falling. I need not say specially about Rahul Gandhi… One who wants to vote would also run away after seeing him,” he said.

He also alleged that the NDA government had not done justice for Telangana over last over four years.

Assembly polls in Telangana were originally scheduled to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections next year.

However, the assembly was dissolved earlier this month as per a recommendation of the state cabinet, which necessitated elections ahead of the schedule.
